What inspires us? What sparks our imagination? How does language, particularly in the form of inner speech, affect what we believe, including both scientific and religious beliefs, whether conscious or unconscious? How does Predictive Processing help us understand faith, belief, and belief change? These drive my current academic interests.
I am completing a monograph this spring (2024): "Talking with God: Prayer, Imagination, and Inspiration in the Age of Neuroscience." My interests are at the intersection of science and religion, particularly psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, and theology. I am fascinated by the role of language in molding what we believe, what we imagine, and what inspires us. I have proposed a model to explain the role of language in enabling inspiration, called the Language-Enabled Inspiration Model, based on a contemporary understanding of brain architecture. LEIM serves as a conduit for Divine action.
