Matteo Belletti
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get
This is Matteo, It's my pleasure to briefly introduce myself (in addition, my cv is published in the drop-down menu here to the right). I am a researcher at The Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy. Marche is also the land where I was born, a beautiful region located in the Central area of Italy, bordered by Tuscany to the north-west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Anyway, If you are curious look at the two (youtube and vimeo) videos I posted for you!
In a nutshell, my goal in research is to contribute in figuring out what will be the role of agriculture and rural space in this crucial twenty-first century. I am among those who believe that we are very close to see an historical turning point in our living way. This follows from the fact that the systemic imbalance effects we are experiencing at a global level remain very underrated and, especially, not adequately perceived by the "post-modern" culture. In other words, "build a bridge" over the "river" that lies between the objective - systemic - reality and the subjective - projected - reality, maybe is the keystone on which the humanity future depends. But, what do we mean for "sustainable development"?
In this respect, I believe the "sustainability" issue - an idea highly susceptible to be projected and then to be misunderstood - can not be solved merely by facing it within the framework of pure rationality. In this regard the following quote captures exactly what I mean and the reason why I'm trying to bring "cybernetics" in the traditional theoretical framework of agricultural economics: "The beautiful and the ugly, the literal and the metaphoric, the sane and the insane, the humorous and the serious … all these and even love and hate are matters that science presently avoids. But in a few years, when the split between problems of mind and problems of matter ceases to be a central determinant of what is impossible to think about, they will become accessible to formal thought." (G. Bateson, 1988)
To wrap up this endeavor to present myself and to greet you with regards, I propose another quote in which I enclose all my optimism and soul: "People don’t understand that to be a human being it isn’t necessary to be six feet tall. What counts is what you have in your head and in your body. And particularly what you have in your soul.” (Michel Petrucciani)
I hope to meet some of you soon for a glass of "good" wine together!!
yours
Matteo
