Dear SPSSI Colleagues:
After close and careful study, APA has decided that the 2006 Annual Meeting will be kept in New Orleans.
Division 9, the Society for Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), invites proposals for posters and symposia from faculty and graduate students for research in any area related to social psychology and its application to social issues. We particularly encourage submissions related to SPSSI’s conference theme “Progress towards social equality: Obstacles and Opportunities.” Fitting the with year’s conference location, SPSSI will also be co-sponsoring events that focus on social issues that emerged in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita.
This year's APA convention will, like the conventions of previous years, offer the usual opportunities for professional enrichment and social connection. But this year's convention will be unique, for in attending we have the opportunity to help rebuild a once great city, and to help the shop clerks, limo drivers, and restaurant and hotel staffers of New Orleans get their lives back in order. Therefore, we urge you to submit a proposal to the APA conference this year. Your symposium, workshop, or poster will help us build a strong and important convention.
The deadline for proposals is very soon -- December 2. You can find the call for programs at:
http://www.apa.org/convention06/
If you have questions concerning the suitability of proposals for Division 9/SPSSI, please feel free to contact either Kevin Lanning (lanning@fau.edu) or Markus Kemmelmeier (markusk@unr.edu).
We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans in August.
