Hello SPSSI Members!
It is time to start thinking about the 2015 APA Convention, to be held in Toronto, Canada, August 6-9! SPSSI (Division 9 of the APA) has its own track of presentations at APA each year, and we are hoping that many of you can join us in Toronto.
Proposals can be submitted for two types of programming this year: collaborative proposals, which are proposals that are relevant to multiple APA divisions and the cross-cutting themes of the convention, and divisional programming, which are the proposals that are reviewed and accepted for the SPSSI Program. The call for proposals can be found at http://www.apa.org/convention/convention-proposals.pdf, which details the guidelines for both collaborative and divisional programming.
Collaborative proposals are due October 15 and should be centered on the 2015 Convention Themes: (a) Competencies at the Intersections of Diversities, (b) The Promises and Pitfalls of Technology, (c) Disparities in Health, Wellness, Justice, and Education, (d) The Psychology of Work and Group Dynamics, (e) Emerging Areas of Science, Practice, and Education: Lifelong Training for Psychologists, (f) Violence, Bullying, Victimization, and Trauma, and (g) Embracing Interdisciplinarity: Reaching Out Beyond Psychology. Submitters must select at least 2 relevant divisions to sponsor collaborative proposals (also indicating a primary division), but the proposals are reviewed by the Central Programming Group at APA. Innovative formats with broad appeal are especially encouraged. If you are considering submitting collaborative programming, please include SPSSI as one of the relevant divisions for your proposal!
The SPSSI divisional proposals for symposium, single-speaker papers, and posters are due December 1. We will accept proposals in all areas of psychology relevant to social issues, but are also focusing on the theme of “Social Inequalities: Causes and Consequences” for the 2015 Convention. Please see the more specific Division 9 call below.
Everyone check your passports and gear up for the 2015 Convention in Toronto. Toronto is a vibrant city with a rich diversity of cultural events, public art, unique food, and commercial areas, and we hope to see you there! Please feel free to contact us if you have questions about submitting a proposal, or if you would like feedback on a symposium/poster idea.
Thanks,
2015 SPSSI Program Co-Chairs
