The Department of Psychology at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Social Cognition beginning Fall, 2009. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in psychology, a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level, and potential for developing an active research program in their area of specialization. The area of specialty within social cognition is open, but preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in the areas of Race, Gender, Sexuality, Cross-Cultural Psychology and/or Health Psychology.
Applicants should be prepared to teach research methods and courses in their area of specialization. The teaching load is three courses each semester. The department consists of eight full-time faulty, representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility located in Bannow Science Center. Fairfield University is an independent comprehensive university founded by the Jesuits, located in Fairfield, CT, a suburban community of 55,000, one hour from New York City and five minutes from Long Island Sound. The University values innovative teaching, collegiality, and a commitment to social justice in an atmosphere of intellectual and religious pluralism. There are 3,300 undergraduates from 32 states and 17 foreign countries with a student/faculty ratio of 13 to 1. The University offers a B.A. degree as well as a B.S. degree in psychology.
