Connecticut College, Psychology: One-Year Position, Open Rank
The Psychology Department at Connecticut College has been granted a rank-open position in clinical or counseling psychology with a specialization in cultural psychology or multicultural counseling for 2012-13 with the possibility that it will convert to a tenured/tenure-track position in the fall of 2013. Connecticut College is a private, highly selective institution with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding teaching and research. Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the College has embarked on a significantly successful initiative to diversify its faculty, student body and curriculum. The College seeks creative scholars excited about working in a liberal arts setting, with its strong focus on engaged teaching, participation in shared governance, and active involvement in an institution-wide advancement of diversity.
The department is asking for your assistance identifying individuals who may be interested in this position and have the following preparation and experience: clinical or counseling psychologist with a specialization in cultural psychology or multicultural counseling; a Ph.D. in Psychology; clear evidence of excellent teaching; an established research program; experience in faculty leadership; and experience working closely with undergraduate students, not only in the classroom, but also in the role as mentor or advisor to co-curricular activities. Teaching and research should include an emphasis on racial or ethnic cultural issues and minority populations with connections to mental health and intervention. Teaching experience in any of the following areas would also make a contribution to the department’s curriculum: forensics, neuropsychology, masculinity, LGBTQ issues, positive psychology, or global mental health. Responsibilities include a 3/2 teaching load including at least one foundational course in the major, academic advising and research mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and service in the department. If converted to tenured/tenure-track in Fall 2013, responsibilities would also include developing and sustaining a productive research program and serving on college committees. The Psychology department will work with the faculty member selected for this position to structure the appointment so that it meets his or her needs as well as those of the department. If a candidate at the advanced level is hired, the length of the tenure track is negotiable and takes into consideration the faculty member’s level of experience. AA/EEO.
