Self & Identity Preconference at SESP 2007
We are pleased to present the program schedule and continue registration for the SESP 2007 Self & Identity Pre-conference in Chicago, IL. The Self and Identity Pre-conference will be held on Thursday, October 11th, from 9am-5pm, with food and beverage services available at 8:30am. The cost is $45 for ISSI members and $55 for non-members.
At this point, we have 12 confirmed speakers (including Sheldon Stryker, the ISSI Lifetime Achievement Award recipient). The schedule organizes the speakers into three separate sessions defined by common themes that unite the speakers within each session.
The first session “Steering the Self: Self-Regulation in Performance and Health Domains”, includes scholars (Roy Baumeister, Ayelet Fishbach, Kentaro Fujita, and Peter Gollwitzer) whose research program considers the determinants and processes that govern self-regulation over time in both performance and health contexts. The second session “Stability and Change in Self: The Vicissitudes of Self”, includes scholars (Carolin Showers, Virgil Zeigler-Hill, Pablo Brinol, and Gregory Webster) whose research program considers the factors that diminish or enhance the stability of self-views in response to social feedback. The final session “The Social Crucible of Self Construction and Presentation”, includes scholars (Shinobu Kitayama, Timothy Owens, Ron Wright, and Bill Swann) whose research program considers how the self is shaped by and, in turn, shapes the broader social and cultural context within which it is embedded.
The first two sessions will be held prior to lunch and will be separated by a brief 15 minute coffee break. Following lunch, the presentation of the lifetime achievement award and the final session of speakers will be held.
Registration information and forms can be accessed on-line at:
