 RT Pronunciation Task: Microphone Recommendations

I’m designing a study using a pronunciation task to measure response latencies. I’m planning on programming the study in DirectRT and was hoping someone with experience using microphones in research could recommend one that will be sensitive to response times. This is my first time running a study using voice data.

I am most concerned with recording the moment of onset that the voice data begins for each trial, but also need to record the entire word to verify that the word wasn’t random noise. Also, if anyone has general advice on how to program DirectRT to record voice data from the computer’s sound card, that would also be helpful, or if another program might be better suited than DirectRT (the only constraint is that I also need to administer visual primes at short SOAs). Thanks!!!
