Once again in 2007, the American Psychological Foundation will offer two types of awards to fund research addressing lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues. Both award competitions are open to researchers with a doctoral-level degree. Applications are especially encouraged from researchers who have received their doctorate in the last 7 years.
(1) Wayne F. Placek Awards are intended to encourage scientific research "to increase the general public's understanding of homosexuality and to alleviate the stress that gay men and lesbians experience in this and future civilizations." Proposals are especially encouraged for empirical studies that address one of the following topics:
(a) heterosexuals' attitudes and behaviors toward lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals, including prejudice, discrimination, and violence;
(b) family and workplace issues relevant to lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals; and
(c) subgroups of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual population that have historically been underrepresented in scientific research.
Maximum Award: $65,000.
Application Receipt Deadline: March 9, 2007.
Application information: http://www.placek.org
...........................
(2) Small Grants. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded for smaller-scale research projects consistent with the Placek Award program's goals. Small Grant applications have a briefer format than the large grants and are intended mainly to fund pilot studies, exploratory research, and time-sensitive studies.
Application Receipt Deadline: January 31, 2007.
