Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Prospective Psychology
The Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to begin fall 2013, for two or more years. The fellow will work at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, with Dr. Roy Baumeister, as well as other senior scientists, including Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman, Dr. Chandra Sripada, and Dr. Peter Railton. The fellow will run research studies, analyze data, prepare publications, and participate in research retreats for a large research grant on Prospective Psychology -- exploring how people are drawn to the future (as opposed to driven by the past).
A key role of the fellow is to conduct research on prospective thought, defined as mental and emotional representations of possible future events. Prospection can include planning, predicting, and anticipating possible events, as well as goal-directed behavior. Work on affective forecasting, implementation intentions, brain states, subjectivity, consciousness, imagination, and creativity is relevant, in addition to research on other emotional, cognitive, and motivational aspects of prospection. Ideal candidates would have expertise and conduct research in social and/or personality psychology. Grant funds and resources will be available to the fellow.
Experience with research design and advanced statistics is required. Individuals with a Ph.D. in psychology, or those expecting to complete their Ph.D. in psychology in 2013, are encouraged to apply.
